How2Rap Interview - "UK Mixtape King" Dj Ames
"The UK Mixtape King AKA Dj Ames is 2 time SEA AWARD WINNER and a Over Seas Dj Breaking Ground in The US.  Tune in as he gives How2rap.com an Exclusive Interview - Live From the UK"
Today we have a hot exclusive interview with a Dj overseas who has been breaking barriers from The Uk to the US.  Im honored to have the chance and sit and pick the mind of a rising super star Dj like this one.  So with out further delay I present to you 2x’s "Impact Dj Of The Year" and "Best Host On A Mixtape" SEA award winner Mr UK Mixtape King himself Dj Ames.

H2H: So Ames I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to rap with me for a few tics.  How’s things going since winning your SEA award for the 2nd year in a row?
Dj Ames: It’s all good I appreciate the opportunity from yourselves. Things are going good busy as ever but you no still got to stay on top of things because there’s always someone that’s going to want to be where im at.

H2H: What was it like when you won the first year?
Dj Ames: It felt good because it proved that all my hardwork hadn’t gone to waste and was paying off.

H2H: How did you hear about the SEA’s?
Dj Ames: I just heard people talking about it and looked into it more, the first year I attempted nominations I didn’t even get a look in but hard work pays off and I defiantly got to shout out Janiro, DJ Infamous and DJ Outlaw for all there hardwork that they put in with the SEA’s. Id recommend any new artist or DJ to defiantly take the trip down and gain some good connections and learn some industry knowledge.
H2H: You couldn’t make it to the states this year for the SEA’s but you had a rep accept the award on your behalf.  I know you’ve been keeping busy but being from the UK was hard to break into the US market?
Dj Ames: At first it was hard but it was all about branding myself correctly and the advantage I had was that I’m from the UK so I had access to a new market and my accent kind of makes me stand out aswell (laughs)

H2H: What type of doors have opened up in the US since you’ve won your awards?
Dj Ames: I mean it’s made a lot of people aware of me so I can get a lot of things from labels and websites which I couldn’t get before.

H2H: You have a Mixtape that does well where you combine artist from the states with artist from the UK (Hell of an idea btw) called International Hustle, how did that come about?
Dj Ames: I actually used to have a series called ‘Grind Time’ but too many people were using that so I wanted something that was true to me and aswell something that I could brand heavily and ‘International Hustle’ came to my head and seems to have stuck and got a lot of peoples attention because its not just a US movement it’s worldwide!

H2H: What is hip hop like where you’re from?  Can you see a difference in Hip Hop between UK & US?
Dj Ames: The main thing is the accents of course but apart from that I wouldn’t say we are much different it’s just the markets that make us different when it comes to pushing Hip Hop.

H2H: Can you give us a few names of some indie artist on the rise in the UK?  And how bout the majors?
Dj Ames: There’s honestly too many to mention right now for both indie and majors but I got to shout out everyone doing there thing in the UK! Id likes to mention names but I work with too many and don’t want to miss anyone out.

H2H: What are 2 of your biggest accomplishments to date?
Dj Ames: Defiantly the SEA Awards wins and being a recognized DJ worldwide.

H2H: I have to commend you on how you handle your business.  I guess every Dj has their own system but when I first found you, I went through all the pages on working with you, and you had it real clear on how to submit music, pick a package and make payment.  You even send copies and promote as well.  The whole process went real smooth…have you always been business savy in that sense or did you just pick those things up on the way?
Dj Ames: Thank you and I guess ive just learned it all through experience as i do all the business side of things myself and always have done so I feel its important to stay on top of things, plus I my business was bad it can put a lot of people off and lose you future business so I like to make sure that stays in tact.

H2H: One thing I do believe is good business can go a long way, its only logic, good business keeps good customers.  So tell us what’s in the works for Dj Ames?
Dj Ames: Working with more new artists. So expect a whole lot more mixtapes and a whole lot more of DJ Ames.

H2H: How do you feel about the Dj game right now?
Dj Ames: The DJ game is healthy but at the same time the internet has created a lot of fakes. So shouts to every DJ that’s doing there thing out there!

H2H: How do you feel about the place where hip hop is at right now?
Dj Ames: Hip Hop is in a good place right and its just evolving with the times.

H2H: Name 5 Club tracks that you would use as a dj to get the party jumping?
Dj Ames: Tough one to answer because id play different joints in the UK to what I would in the US.
If we say the UK then it’s got to be the following 5
50 – In Da Club
Lil Jon – Get Low
Fatman Scoop – Be Faithful
DMX – Party Up
Notorious BIG - Hypnotize

H2H: Where can people go to contact you, if they want to reach you for business or to get on your next mixtape?
Dj Ames: www.djamesuk.co.uk - www.myspace.com/djamesuk - www.twitter.com/djamesuk

H2H: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Dj Ames: Yes first off thanks for the support with this interview. Shouts to my PR So Sincere and Tawag Promotions. And also shouts to everyone that I have worked with or supported me.
