I feel it is my obligation to share with you in my opinion, what I feel the most chief ingredient, to your success to be. I have talked with numerous MC's, CEO's, and producers in the music industry, and the one thing that they all say a artist must possess in this business is to Love What You Do.
You must absolutely to the core of your heart and soul love what it is that you are doing. Sounds crazy I know, more than ever to someone looking for advice. But, I’ve learned that your belief system is something that’s going to shape your journey into what it is you are to be in this thing called music.
I remember Pac had a song where he asked "What do you belieeeve in?" That is definitely something you are
going to want to ask yourself. But as I said many times before you must LOVE WHAT YOU DO
In the early stages when your face to face with crowds who just stare in a daze looking like they would much rather listen to something else...you must love what you do. When your performing in venues in front of only 20 people. You must love what you do. When you get beat by the shady club promoter your better love what you do. And when your folks or your girl holler "you still ain't get a job yet?" you better love what it is that you are doing.
Then once you have done every gig in town and you are at last developing your sound and a following, it’s off to the studio you go. You print up 1000 discs, have your buddy produce some cool artwork and put them out for the world to see at your next event. Sell five to your mom and girl who are still asking if you found a job yet. You better love what you do.
And then when your album comes out, you smash radio, and you sell 5,000 copies, and every person who ever doubted you disappears. You better, with the core of your heart and soul, love what you do.
It's that simple. The music business is very complex and even more so to maintain. A lot of bad things happen within the industry. The good thing is music is a beautiful universal language. The point I am trying to make is, if you love what you do, playing in a slum club won't matter. It won't get you down and it won't stop you from doing what you love. Writing songs and performing them becomes a joyful gift.
Until next time...When times get rough it usually means a change of something better is coming right around the corner....Most people quit before even getting around to what’s to come...the only way to guarantee you will stick it through is to Love What You Do....Good luck and keep grindin.
